Student Government (SG) refined their “bug list” of issues that they
would focus on improving. The major ones include making 100% of
both academic and residential sides of campus accessible to a wireless
network; creating more scholarships and making the scholarships
known to students; having a central location online for all RIT events
so that students may be aware of everything on campus; and having art
supplies sold on campus again.
Prizes on Spirit Fridays
SG wants to reward students who are showing school spirit by giving
them prizes. If RITchie the Tiger finds students wearing their orange
and brown, they will receive a prize for that week.
New Graduate Senator Chosen
SG approved another senator position that would represent the
graduate student population on campus. Three candidates were
interviewed for the position. After briefly closing the Senate for voting,
first year graduate Packaging Science major Fabiana Kotoriy
was pronounced Graduate Senator.
Kotoriy, 2005 Industrial and Systems Engineering alumna,
was involved with SG during her undergraduate studies. When Kotoriy
came back for her masters, she jumped on the opportunity to meet
fellow grad students.
“As a Graduate Senator, I will work hard to be a liaison and a voice for
my fellow grad students in front of Student Government, faculty,
staff and administrators. I will work closely with SG to improve current
efforts and explore new ways in which we can have a more active and
enthusiastic grad student body by listening to their wants and adapting
to their needs. I will also work closely with the Office of the Dean
of Graduate Studies to determine ways in which grad students can
collaborate on multidisciplinary projects that focus on innovation and
the pursuit of academic excellence at RIT,” said the new senator.
RHA Website Up
RHA Senator Phillip Amsler reported that the RHA website is up
and running.
Quarter Walk Coming Back?
Greek Council Senator Laura Herder reported that some of the Greek
organizations would like to bring back the quarter walk fundraiser
(from which the Quarter Mile received its name) for the spring.
Supporters would line up on the path of the Quarter Mile with their
quarters and throw their money in the middle for the RIT organizations
to collect.
